Unable to start vertica - 'Unable to Read Database Catalogs'

Issue/Introduction

When trying to start vertica, It would not start. and in the terminal I see 'Unable to Read Database Catalogs'

Environment

Dx NetOps Performance Management any version

Cause

FIPS

Resolution

Check if FIPS is enablded

You have two options:

1. cat /proc/sys/crypto/fips_enabled
2. sysctl crypto.fips_enabled

1 indicates enabled, while 0 indicates disabled.

 

If it is enabled work with your system administrator to have it  disabled and then restart vertica
