Issue/Introduction

There is no vertica Epoch.log file to use to recover the database. 

Can't find Epoch.log file 

Recover vertica from last good epoch 

Environment

Release : 21.2

Cause

Vertica creates a Epoch.log file when a force startup of Vertica is attempted. So if you don't do a fore start you will not have an Epoch.log file. 

Resolution

Run the following command:
./admintools -t start_db -d drdata -F

This command will probably fail but attempting a forced repair of Vertica database, will put an Epoch.log in the catalogue directory which is the same directory that contains vertica.log.
