Passing parameters to SORTs invoked by IDMS utilities

Issue/Introduction

On occasion it might be desirable to pass SORT-specific parameters to a SORT that is being invoked by an IDMS utility, and there is no documented IDMS SYSIDMS parameter to support it.

One example is that NOVLSHRT in DFSORT may be helpful for very large sorts (message ICE121A 7 FILE SIZE IS TOO LARGE may be seen).

Environment

Release : All supported releases.

Resolution

Use the ddname SORTCNTL for such parameters.

It is recommended to point SORTCNTL to a dataset as opposed to using DD *.
