Issue/Introduction

Upgrading to Data Center Security (DCS): Server Advanced 6.9.3

Environment

Data Center Security: Server Advanced

Versions:

  • 6.7.x
  • 6.8.2
  • 6.9.x

Resolution

Clientless Security Virtual Appliance (SVA) - Do not upgrade

NOTE: Data Center Security: Server is not included in this particular release of Data Center Security 6.9.3
• Please use Data Center Security 6.9.2 for agentless support
• All management functionality for the Security Virtual Appliance (SVA) in the Unified Management Console (UMC) is removed
• Data Center Security: Server will continue to be available in upcoming releases
• To prevent upgrade issues to Data Center Security: Server 6.9.3 with systems that have NSX-V registered with an
older version of Data Center Security: Server, a message is presented during the upgrade to first unregister and the upgrade is blocked

Take a full backup

Before you upgrade, Symantec recommends that you backup the SCSPDB database, UMC database, SQL
user accounts, the certificate files, and the configuration files

Perform the following tasks to backup and upgrade DCS Primary Manager and database

Step 1: Backup your cert files and the database

Step 2: Backup your server.xml file, location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Data Center Security Server\Server\tomcat\conf\server.xml

Step 3: Plan for the upgrade

  • Ensure that the minimum system requirements are met by reviewing the DCS 6.9.3 Planning & Deployment Guide
  • The DCS Manager must be running Windows Server 2016 SP1 or higher
  • Review the DCS Upgrade Plan to ensure a seamless upgrade - Know before you upgrade
  • If you are running a DCS Manager version 6.7.x or 6.8.x, or 6.9.0, you will need to first upgrade the DCS Manager to DCS 6.9.2 before upgrading to DCS 6.9.3

Step 4: Upgrade Management Server and the Unified Management Console on the Primary DCS Manager

To upgrade Management Server, install server.exe on the same computer on which the previous version is installed

  • Ensure SEP is disabled for the duration of the upgrade
  • Ensure UAC is turned off for the duration of the upgrade
  • Ensure 3rd Party SQL Users that pull event data should have the login disabled (SPLUNK, etc)
  • Ensure Database Backups are paused for the duration of the upgrade
