"gdbm fatal: malloc error" alert from man-db.cron after upgrade to 10.8.0

Issue/Introduction

Following the update to Messaging Gateway (SMG) 10.8.0-7, the SMG system begins generating daily alerts indicating that the man-db.cron process is failing with a gdbm fatal malloc error:

/etc/cron.daily/man-db.cron:

gdbm fatal: malloc error

Environment

Release : 10.8.0

Cause

The man page database is corrupted and needs to be recreated. 

Resolution

This issue does not affect SMG operation or performance in any way and is merely an annoyance.
