Team unable to update Planning Estimate on User Story -"Error setting value for field [ Plan Estimate ]: Could not set estimate for the parent project directly"

Issue/Introduction

Users are receiving the following error when trying to update A User Story's Plan Estimate from 1 to 3: "Error setting value for field [ Plan Estimate ]: Could not set estimate for the parent project directly"

 

 

 

 

Cause

This is occurring because the User Story is the parent of another User Story.  

Resolution

Because the User Story is the Parent of another User Story the Plan Estimate will need to be changed in the Child User Story.   This is because the Parent User Story's Plan Estimate is rolled up from (and is a total of) all the Child User Stories.  The Plan Estimate field must be updated in child user stories.
