Issue/Introduction

Enterprise Gateway showing periodic alarms from monitoring software that the 'VIPAppService.exe' service is down.  

Environment

Release : Enterprise Gateway - 9.10.1

Resolution

VIPAppService.exe is the launching service for the VIP Desktop Application. This service is not part of the VIP Enterprise Gateway services and is not necessary for server functionality and can be safely removed. It is recommended to install the VIP Desktop client on the client machines.

Location of service file: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

If this service is failing on a client machine, then the VIP Desktop Client should be removed from add/remove programs and re-installed with the latest version downloaded from https://vip.symantec.com/
