Issue/Introduction

After successful Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) upgrade from 14.3 or earlier to 14.3 RU1 or later you notice that the first 3 tabs, Home, Monitoring and Reporting, in the SEPM console are missing.

There were no errors during the upgrade.

Your certificate is up to date and ODBC test works fine.

In the reporting.log you can see the following entries:

ERROR:warning: error at login. will retry once. error message : <b>Source:</b> Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers<br/><b>Description:</b> [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified

ERROR:fatal error at login: \r\nEXCEPTION block1: Error message: <b>Source:</b> Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers<br/><b>Description:</b> [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified\r\nError code: -2147352567\r\nFile and line: D:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Php\Include\Common\ado.php(95)\r\n

Environment

Post upgrade to 14.3 RU1+ from SEP 14.3 or earlier.

Upgrading from the embedded DB to SQL Express.

Cause

When upgrading to RU1+ and installing the SQL Express server, the DBA account (SEPM DB user) is configured to use the same password as the admin password was at the upgrade time.

If there are special characters, that do not meet the Microsoft requirement, they may work for the Management Server Configuration Wizard / JDBC but will fail with the PHP connector which will result in the missing tabs.

Resolution

Run Management Server Configuration Wizard, choose to reconfigure the current server and change the SQL user password. Ensure it meets the Microsoft requirements.
