Issue/Introduction

We are receiving multiple BGP alarms similar to the below message, however, when investigating the device BGP table, there are no connections relating to the given address. We need some assistance in discovering what these messages are corresponding to.

A BGP4 PEER <hostname_here> SESSION IS DOWN

Environment

Release : 21.2, 22.2

Resolution

Set the following parameter in the $SPECROOT/SS directory.

show_bgp_peer_hostname=false

Reload the Spectrum VNM SS/.vnmrc resource file using CLI action=0x10700 by navigating to the $SPECROOT/vnmsh directory:

./connect

./update action=0x10700 mh=<model_handle_of_the_SS>

ie:

./update action=0x10700 mh=0x1000000

The next time the event happens there will be an IP address instead of a hostname.

Additional Information

It may be that the peer session has been discontinued but the device BGP table has not been updated.  This can also cause false alarms.
