TPX - Session Management

Issue/Introduction

The normal reasons a TPXL0139 SESSION INQUIRE FAILED message occurs are:

  • VTAM returns bad inquire application status to TPX, or
  • Search time for inquire runs out and application status not found.

Environment

Release: 5.4

Component: TPX for Z/OS

Resolution

This message indicates one or more of the following:

  1. Application is down,
  2. Cross domain resource is having a problem,
  3. VTAM path to the application is blocked

To address this error:

  1. Verify that the application is up.
  2. Verify that all of the recommended customization for this application are in place: TPX 5.4 - Customizing for Certain Applications
  3. If suspected that the application is available, set the TPX ACT table field INQUIRE-ON-APPL-STATUS to NO as a work-around. Reload ACT. Log off and back on to TPX.
  4. If the application is still not accessible after setting INQUIRE-ON-APPL-STATUS to NO, check for any new error messages. For example, LU is unavailable and sensecode 087D which is indicative of a VTAM pathing error, so it is likely that VTAM is the cause and may need to be cycled or otherwise addressed.

Additional Information

In SNA environments where the application is either on a back-level host or is not normally activated by VTAM, specify N to avoid extensive search activity.
