  2. Symantec Protection Engine on this machine should be able to access and download definitions from liveupdate.symantec.com
  3. Valid Symantec Protection Engine license installed.

Steps to be performed on the Symantec Protection Engine which has internet access:

  1. Ensure the last Live Update session is complete. Open lux.log and check entries at the end of the file.

Default path in Linux: /opt/SYMCScan/bin/definitions/Stargate/logs/lux.log
Default path in Windows: C:\Program Files\Symantec\Scan Engine\Definitions\Stargate\logs\lux.log

  1. Wait 10 minutes to ensure the downloaded definitions are applied.
  2. Stop Symantec Protection Engine service
  3. Make a copy of "Stargate" directory to a shared location. This directory needs to be copied to another Symantec Protection Engine machine(s) in later steps.

Default path Linux: /opt/SYMCScan/bin/definitions/Stargate
Default path Windows: C:\Program Files\Symantec\Scan Engine\definitions\Stargate

  3. Stop Symantec Protection Engine service
  4. Navigate to the "definitions" directory.

Default path Linux: /opt/SYMCScan/bin/definitions/
Default path Windows: C:\Program Files\Symantec\Scan Engine\definitions

  1. Rename "Stargate" directory to "Stargate.old"
  2. Copy "Stargate" directory from shared location in previous steps.
  3. Ensure permissions and ownership of "Stargate" directory to same as that of "Stargate.old"
  4. Start Symantec Protection Engine service
  5. Verify Symantec Protection Engine started using new definitions
