How do the Clarity PPM Hierarchies work?

The Classic PPM projects have a Hierarchy tab.

In MUX there is a Hierarchy module that can be added into blueprints.

Additionally, in MUX there is a Hierarchy workspace.

How do these work?

Cause

The project hierarchy in Classic PPM, the blueprint modules MUX, and the workspace are completely different and follow different rules and logic.

Resolution

Classic PPM projects have a Hierarchy tab where you can add multiple child/parent relationships. A single project can have multiple children and parents.
This relationship is stored in the INV_HIERARCHIES and the INV_FLAT_HIERARCHIES tables.

In MUX the hierarchy concept is broader and the hierarchy module can be added to project, idea and CIO blueprints.
The hierarchy relies on the Parent attribute.
Double-click within the Parent column of the relevant investment and select the Parent investment.
The parent-child relationship is stored in the parent_id column of the INV_INVESTMENTS table

Additionally, in MUX, you have the Hierarchies workspace where you can create one or more hierarchies and define the relationship between various investments. Each hierarchy includes a tree with multiple cards.
The Hierarchy workspace differentiates the hierarchical parent from the common investment parent (set by the parent attribute at the investment level)
The Hierarchies workspace relies on the ODF_HIERARCHIES and ODF_HIERARCHY_NODES tables when hierarchy structures are created.
