Issue/Introduction

While reviewing the joblog file in the spool directory we discovered a message:

CAWA_I_20007 Environment variable: SUDO_USER=<userid>

This userid is not defined anywhere in the job. Why is this appearing? Where is this coming from?

Environment

Release : 11.5

Cause

This is not a Workload Automation System Agent variable. This is a variable that gets set by sudo when a process (i.e. cybAgent) gets started via sudo. This variable gets set by sudo to track the user id that started the process via sudo.

In short: The user <userid> started the cybAgent using sudo. This is why you're seeing this in the logs.

Resolution

Starting the agent with sudo is not a bad thing and having the SUDO_USER has no impact on how the job is executed.

If you do not want SUDO_USER in your joblog file then start the agent without sudo. Then, SUDO_USER will not be part of the cybAgent's environment and will not show up in your joblog files.
