Scheduler Job Management

Issue/Introduction

In CA Scheduler JM, the DELETE HISTORY command is provided to physically remove obsolete history records from the CA Scheduler JM database. This Knowledge Document describes how the DELETE HISTORY command works.

Environment

Release: SCHED.00200-11-Scheduler-Job Management
Component:

Resolution

The DELETE HISTORY command uses two CA Scheduler JM CAS9 CAIJGEN options to determine which history record is qualified for removal: HISTNUM and HISTRET.

HISTNUM sets the minimum number of stored history occurrences of a job or a schedule. A history occurrence starts when a job/schedule enters the active workload, and ends when the job/schedule leaves the active workload.

HISTRET sets the minimum number of stored history days of a job or a schedule.

DELETE HISTORY removes the history record only when both HISTNUM and HISTRET values are satisfied.

HISTRET is used alone and ignores the HISTNUM for the following:

  • When a job was added to Scheduler via the ADD JOB command.
  • When a job is no longer defined to Scheduler.

HISTNUM and HISTRET are CA Scheduler JM's initialization options and are set on the CAS9 CAIJGEN command.

These options can also be overridden at the JOB/SCHEDULE definition level.

A sample DELETE HISTORY job is found in the CA Scheduler JM CAIJCL library, member CHCLEAN.
