Service Virtualization

Issue/Introduction

A server has been installed with a Performance VSE license.
The server also runs Enterprise Dashboard, IAM and Registry.
Apart from running the Virtual Services on the performance VSE, there is also a requirement to maintain and develop Virtual Services.
Do the developers require separate SV Power User licenses?

Environment

Release : All supported DevTest versions.

Component : DevTest Licensing

Resolution

Yes there should be an entitlement in the contract for a Performance VSE and a separate entitlement for a number of SV Power Users.
The DevTest usage should be monitored on the Enterprise Dashboard to confirm that the usage is within the contract.
This means not have more concurrent SV Power Users than listed in the contract and not have more Performance VSE installations than listed in the contract.
The devtestlic.xml license file itself does not limit the number of users or performance VSEs.

Additional Information

Type of licenses

LSSVPU990 - SV: Service Virtualization Power User
LSSVPF990 - SV: Service Virtualization for Performance
LSSVRU990 - Service Virtualization Functional Transactions

Below is more detailed information on each license.

SV Licensing Model – Power User

• Service Virtualization is licensed by the number of Power Users.
• "Concurrent User" means a software license that is based on the number of simultaneous (concurrent) users accessing the program.
• The software does not prohibit additional users from access but does log license usage for auditing purposes.
• Customer is entitled to have the specified number of Concurrent Users access the software simultaneously.
• For licensing purposes, each Concurrent User is entitled to have one active session connected to the server either directly or indirectly. Each active session initiated by an individual, device or process is counted as a Concurrent User. An active session means either a workstation or web browser is connected to the registry server and/or the DevTest portal or custom application session accessing virtualized service.
• “Power User” means a Concurrent User who has full use of and access to the service virtualization functions within the Broadcom Software.
• Each Power User includes one Application Test Power User and unlimited functional virtual service environments (“VSE”), servers where virtual services are deployed, run and managed. The Functional VSE may scale up to 10 transactions per second per virtual service

SV Licensing Model – Performance VSE

• Service Virtualization for Performance is licensed by the number of Copies.
• Service Virtualization for Performance requires a license to Service Virtualization.
• “Copy” means each copy of the Broadcom Software program installed.
• “Concurrent Active Copy” means each copy of the Software program installed and running simultaneously.
• Service Virtualization for Performance may only be used for performance testing of applications, as Service Virtualization for Performance will enable the virtual service environment (“VSE”) to scale over 10 Transactions per second per virtual service.

SV Licensing Model – Transaction Packs

Service Virtualization Functional Transactions is licensed by the number of Transactions Per Month and Packs. Service Virtualization
• Functional Transactions requires a license to Service Virtualization Concurrent Users.
• “Transactions” means any API call made to an active virtual service. A virtual service is a service, deployed, run, or managed within a virtual service environment (“VSE”) server. An active virtual service means a virtual service that is running in a Service Virtualization VSE
• “Transactions Per Month” means Transactions per 30 calendar days.
• “Pack” means 23,000 Transactions per month.
