Error: 'No package sources returned by server' while downloading package during imaging

Issue/Introduction

Customer has a single server ITMS installation (1 NS and no other site servers) with Package Server and Deployment Package Server installed on the Notification Server.

During Image capture or deploy the pectagent will attempt to download the image package and fail with the following error:

Error while downloading package: No package sources returned by server

Cause

The Package Server and Deployment Package Server plugins were but should not have been installed on the Notification Server/SMP because it is a Package Server by default. Installing the Package Server on the NS will duplicate its stored packages and unnecessarily consume space.

In a single Package Server environment this can also cause issues with package downloads and especially in an environment where no other package servers exist.

Resolution

Ensure there is a good recent backup of the SMP and then uninstall the Deployment Package and Package Server from the Notification Server since the SMP/NS is a package server by default.
