Vantage Storage Resource Manager

Issue/Introduction

Here are some Vantage object actions that are not seen in Vantage r14.1, but which exist in Vantage r14.0:

  1. The ‘Add SMS Vols to LWM’ function does not have a ‘Low Water Mark’ and ‘Simulate’  parameter in Vantage 14.1.
  2. The action ‘Add SMS Volume VFO’ and ‘Add SMS Volume to LWM VFO’  are not available in Vantage 14.1.
  3. The new action ‘Add SMS Volume to FGB’ has been introduced in Vantage 14.1, but it appears that there is no information in the PTF Hold Data, or any Vantage 14.1 manuals.

Environment

Release : 14.1

Component : Vantage Storage Resource Manager

Resolution

1) The ‘Add SMS Vols to LWM’ action does not have a ‘Low Water Mark’ and ‘Simulate’  parameter in Vantage 14.1:

This action is available in the POOLS and OBJ02340 objects. In the POOLS object, there is a LWM parameter. In the OBJ02340 object, the LWM is part of the SSGACONF configuration member. The Vantage documentation has info on how to create and edit the SSGACONF member.

The Windows Client sometimes reaches limitations in reloading definitions. To solve this problem with the missing action parameters, follow these steps:

a) In the object tree, navigate to the object:  CA Vantage Internal Management  -->  Dictionary -->  Object Definitions, then do an Execute/Refresh on this object to collect its data.
b) Find the line for object 'ADDSMSV', select the line, and then in the top menu select 'Actions  --> Load Object Defs'  (note that the parameters for actions related to object OBJ02340 - Add SMS Vols to LWM - should be fine.  Only the 'simulate' function will be seen for this object.  The other functions for this action are defined in the SSGACONF member).
c) In cases where action parameters are missing for the 'Add SMS Volumes' action, repeat steps 1 and 2 above, but perform actions for the object 'ADDSMS' instead of 'ADDSMSV'.
d) In cases where action parameters are missing for the 'Add SMSVols to FGB', repeat steps 1 and 2 above, but perform actions for the object 'ADDSMSG' instead of 'ADDSMSV'.

 2) The action ‘Add SMS Volume VFO’ and ‘Add SMS Volume to LWM VFO’  are not available in Vantage 14.1.

Vantage 14.1 only has the 'Add SMS Volume' action.  The option 'VFO' and 'LWM VFO' is handled by program logic under the single action  'Add SMS Volume'.

3) The new action ‘Add SMS Volume to FGB’ has been introduced in Vantage 14.1, but it appears that there is no information in the PTF Hold Data, or any Vantage 14.1 manuals.

The tech doc is available in the following link (see the section titled 'Add SMSVols to FGB'). Note that the action naming is slightly different between the POOLS object and the OBJ02340 object:

Info on configuring the SSGACONF member can be found here.
