The ACF2 Administrator Guide shows many examples where GROUP(OMVSGRP) is assigned to an STC logonid record, and there are also examples of the OMVSGRP GROUP profile record being assigned different GID values, like GID(1) or GID(20).
The GSO UNIXOPTS record has a DFTGROUP field which is most commonly shown with an assigned group name of OMVSDGRP. The documentation in the ACF2 Administrator Guide usually shows OMVSDGRP with GID(99,999,999).
Are these values significant? What GID values should be assigned to the OMVS GROUP profile records for OMVSGRP and OMVSDGRP?
The name of the GROUP assigned to STC logonid records does not have to be OMVSGRP. It is just a convention used in the documentation. Likewise, the UNIXOPTS DFTGROUP does not have to be set to OMVSDGRP.
Although the examples show OMVSGRP usually assigned GID(1) and OMVSDGRP assigned GID(99,999,999), they could be set to anything from 0 to 2,147,483,647. In general, lower numbers are used for systems related groups while higher numbers are used for application user groups.
The default user and group definitions in the GSO UNIXOPTS record are no longer used with z/OS 2.1 or higher.
