Error installing Symantec Manage Agent for Linux Agent on Red Hat Server: 504 Gateway Timeout: remote server did not respond to the proxy

Issue/Introduction

You're attempting to install the Symantec Management Agent on your Linux server and receiving an error when trying to do so.  Viewing the error.log file shows the following:

504 Gateway Timeout: remote server did not respond to the proxy

Environment

Release : 8.6

Cause

Proxy server is blocking communication

Resolution

During the troubleshooting of this problem you may be able to successfully ping the Symantec Management Platform (SMP) server.  However, running the following command is proven to fail with the same error from the error.log file 504 Gateway Timeout: remote server did not respond to the proxy. Running:  wget http://FQDN of SMP Server Here

When that error fails it's likely a proxy is not configured properly and you will need to consult with your network administrators to resolve the issue.
