To standardize our global environment we are required to change the directory where the agent is installed.

Manually changing the installation folder of Agents is not recommended and not supported. If there are problems then it will likely come back to the uninstall/reinstall method (since manually doing is not officially supported). The recommended method of uninstalling and reinstalling is the fastest and most straight forward way of accomplishing this task.
