What are the best practices for upgrading the Web Security Service (WSS) Agent software?
What factors need to be considered when planning an upgrade for the WSS Agent (WSSA) endpoint software?
What are the easiest ways to upgrade the WSSA client?
The prerequisites for upgrading the WSSA client are the same as for installing WSSA: Install WSS Agent
For more detailed information about the WSSA client, see: About the WSS Agent
NOTE: It is strongly recommended to keep your installed WSSA clients updated and running the most recent releases of WSSA (due to ongoing client updates and security enhancements).
The easiest ways to upgrade the WSSA endpoint clients are by:
1. Using one of the standard enterprise software deployment frameworks (GPO, SCCM, JAMF, etc.)
2. Enabling the WSS Portal option to notify the end-users that a WSSA client update is available: "Prompt end user for update"
You enable this notification option in the "WSS Portal > Connectivity > WSS Agent" page (where you download the WSSA install file) and enable the following checkbox:
"Prompt end user for update"
"Prompt end user for update" is a notification only (it does not force the WSSA update to be installed). The end-user must click the update notification dialog to update the WSSA client.
