ADSDM490 3778 message. How can tape be removed?

Issue/Introduction

For whatever reason the weekly DMS Tape Merge was cancelled.   

All the files that were merged to this partial merge tape were recalled so they are back on Disk.  The files were purged  off of the Merged partial tape. .  How can I delete the tape from the archives?

How can the empty tape from DMS be removed?

Resolution

Use IXUPDATE to "close" an Archvol that was left "open" because of some failure,

Use:

//IXMAINT EXEC IXUPDATE                                   
//SYSIN DD *                                              
RESET KEY=nnnnnn,CLOSED
