Issue/Introduction

This article clarifies how subject searches are processed in TEWS/SOAP requests in Identity Manager. It provides the required filter syntax to ensure search queries are performed against the intended attribute.

Environment

Identity Manager 14.5

Cause

In Identity Manager, subject searches are inherently processed against the last attribute option in the search list. This behavior is a fundamental architectural change required to support the integration between Identity Portal and Identity Manager.

Resolution

To ensure accurate subject searches when multiple attributes are available, implement the following filter syntax to explicitly define the target attribute:

  1. Identify the desired attribute name (e.g., USER_ID).
  2. Construct the filter using the EQUALS operator as follows:
    • Filter: %USER_ID% EQUALS <value>
  3. Replace <value> with the specific identifier you are querying for (e.g., 123456).
