A process can be set to Active, Draft, or On Hold mode. What do each of these modes do to the process?
Resolution
A process definition can be in the following Mode:
Draft
A process definition in Draft mode can be edited and deleted.
Process instances cannot be started from a process definition in Draft mode.
A process definition must be in Validated status before it can be switched to Active or On-Hold mode.
On Hold
A process definition in On Hold mode cannot be edited. It can be deleted if there are no active process instances of this process definition.
Process instances cannot be started from a process definition in On Hold mode. However, existing running process instances of this process definition will continue to run until they are canceled or completed.
A process definition must be in Validated status before it can be switched to Active mode.
A process definition must not have process instances before it can be switched to Draft mode.
Active
A process definition in Active mode cannot be edited. It can be deleted if there are no active process instances of this process definition.
Process instances can be started from a process definition in Active mode.
Only process definitions in Validated status can be in Active mode.
Active process definitions having process instances cannot be switched to "Draft" mode. Process instances must be cancelled and/or deleted before the process definition can be switched to "Draft" mode.
