Issue/Introduction

What is the best way to control FDRABR volume backups within the pattern masking RMF?

  5   DSN=FDRABR.VMPAC##.C1-     I got this to work where ## is a number, but I need to work for alpha as well

Ex:

  5   DSN=FDRABR.VMPAC#.C1-

Or

A series

5   DSN=FDRABR.VMPACCC.C1-

5   DSN=FDRABR.VMPACZZ.C1-

OR

  5   DSN=FDRABR.VMPAC#@.C1-  where # is a number and @ is an alpha character.

Environment

Release : 14.0

Component : TLMS Tape Management

Resolution

The best way to control the FDRABR DSN without an entry for each pack

is the following:

DSN=FDRABR.VMPAC-.C1-

This will mask the pack name with the first four characters. The next two characters will be the wild card. This way, the last two can be alpha or numeric. If they add a new pack to the MPAC series, there is no need to update the RMF entry as the last two characters will be picked up with the single entry.

This should reduce the number of entries in the RMF for the FDRABR series.
