boot.wim loads very slowly when PXE booting

Issue/Introduction

When booting into WinPE automation environment through PXE, the boot.wim loads very slowly and takes 10 minutes or longer

Cause

Likely network or environment related. Could also indicate a problematic install of Windows ADK

Resolution

Use iPXE instead of legacy PXE. iPXE loads the boot.wim over HTTP rather than TFTP which significantly speeds up the process.

iPXE requires IIS and some prerequisites for use.
