Issue/Introduction

We noticed that while trying to upgrade Standalone Nexus repository version 6.7.0.81 to 6.7.0.576, hosted on different server it results in erroneous upgrade where instead of upgrade the patch try to perform a new install.

Environment

Release : 6.X

Component : CA RELEASE AUTOMATION CORE

Cause

In our investigation we identified that issue is due to permission mismatch. We tried to explain the scenario can lead to the issue observed.

Use case Setup

  1. Install GA version using "nolio" user
  2. Initiate patch installation using sudo privileges.

Cause

  • The information related to install in step 1 is saved in install4j in its folders (e.g. .java/.userPrefs/com/install4j or ./home/[user name]/.java/.userPrefs/com/install4j).
  • The patch installer due to permission mismatch unable to identify previously installed products, henceforth it can't stop the nolio repository service(and can't free the used ports) and tries to install nolio repository prompting new ports.

Resolution

Run the installer with the user owning(previous user did installation) the Nolio Repository Server directory.
