Issue/Introduction

Internet explorer not responding after Endpoint Protection Client upgrade to 14.3 RU3 on WINDOWS 7 32 BIT.

Environment

SEP 14.3 RU3 and above

Cause

The problem is caused by IPSEng32.dll which is indirectly calling LoadLibraryEx from DllMain. This violates the safety practices documented at https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/dlls/dynamic-link-library-best-practices In this case, LoadLibraryEx is being called from the delay-loader hook for shlwapi.dll. 

 

Resolution

This issue has been fixed in IPS Engine release version (CIDS 17.2.9) of August 2022.
