Issue/Introduction

The ClientSideClonePrepTool from Prepare Endpoint Protection clients for cloning (broadcom.com) is not working with Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) 14.3 RU5. It shows the error "Failed: Incorrect version, or version could not be read. SEP 12.1 or higher is required."

Using the "smc -image" command instead does not appear to do anything. No error message is returned, and the registry values listed in the cloning article are not deleted.

Environment

Release : 14.3 RU5

Component : Endpoint Protection Client

Cause

Updated paths and certificates in the RU5 client prevent the old tool from working. The "smc -image" command was blocked for on-premises clients.

Resolution

A new ClientSideClonePrepTool has been built for 14.3 RU5. See Prepare Endpoint Protection clients for cloning (broadcom.com) for the download and appropriate steps.

Starting with 14.3 RU6 the "smc -image" command is fixed and should be used moving forward.
