Issue/Introduction

This article addresses an issue where a Policy Xpress (PX) policy of type UI fails to update attribute values during a custom Password Reset task. This occurs because the necessary Modify User event is not triggered, preventing the PX policy action from executing.

Environment

Identity Manager 14.5 & 15

Cause

The custom Password Reset task is configured to generate a separate event for password changes. When this occurs, the system triggers a Reset password on user event instead of a Modify User event. Because PX policies linked to task submission often rely on the standard modify event state, the policy actions are bypassed.

Resolution

1. Access Task Configuration

  1. Log in to the User Console with administrative privileges.
  2. Navigate to Roles and Tasks > Admin Tasks > Modify Admin Task.
  3. Search for and select the custom Password Reset task.

2. Modify Profile Tab Settings

  1. Navigate to the Tabs tab.
  2. Select the Profile tab and click Configure.
  3. Locate the option Do not generate a separate event for password changes.

  4. Enable/check this checkbox.
  5. Click OK and then Submit to save the changes.

3. Verification

  1. Execute the Password Reset task.
  2. Navigate to View Submitted Tasks.
  3. Confirm that a Modify User event now appears in the task details.
  4. Verify that the Policy Xpress attribute values are now updated as expected.
