Issue/Introduction

When initializing PROTDMP repository the following messages may be generated: IEC070I 209-220 and IGD17070I DATASET PROTDMP ALLOCATED SUCCESSFULLY WITH n STRIPE(S)

Environment

Cause

The PROTDMP repository was created as indicated by message IGD17070I DATASET PROTDMP ALLOCATED SUCCESSFULLY WITH 1 STRIPE(S). Which means the system created a new SMS-managed extended sequential data set. When using the utility program IN25INIT to initialize the PROTDMP repository an IEC070I 203-204, PROTDMP message is generated which is normal. This message states an extend was attempted, but no secondary space allocation quantity was specified. Since DATACLASS(EXTENDED) was being used, SMS attempted to extend the file. The warning message IEC070I 209-220 was produced as SMS attempts to extend the PROTDMP until no more space is available on the volume.

Resolution

When allocating a PROTDMP repository secondary extents are not allowed. You need to ensure that the PROTDMP file utilizes a non extended SMS class or remove the PROTDMP repository from SMS control. Likewise any vendor products such as STOPx37 which will also allocate secondary extents must not be used.
