Edge SWG (ProxySG) Error: Abnormal receive request termination of connection from local port

Issue/Introduction

Edge SWG (ProxySG) with Event Log messages:

"Abnormal receive request termination of connection from local port <number> to advanced forwarded server <Forwarding Server> retransmissions occured with at least one packet having <number> retransmissions"

Cause

This message indicates the remote side terminated the connection, unexpectedly. It also indicates network retransmissions.

This behavior can be confirmed with packet captures done at the same timeframe as the messages.

Resolution

• The resolution depends on the source of the problem. Here are the most common issues with solutions:

  1. Stale DNS entries causing outdated IPs being used for connecting to the forward host.

  2. Communication errors with the upstream host.

  3. Invalid or outdated forwarding host
     • Remove the forwarding host (provided that the Edge SWG can route traffic to the host directly).
     • Update the forwarding host to one that has access to the host.
