Is APAR RO71383 needed With Enterprise COBOL V6.4?

Issue/Introduction

With Enterprise COBOL V4.2 and  preparing to go to V6.4, Apar RO71383 indicates that

"Telon generated COBOL programs may fail with ABEND U4008. This problem occurs
only for COBOL 5.1 version."

Is Enterprise COBOL V6.4, exposed to having this problem?

Yes, for Enterprise COBOL V6.4, the following is needed.

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                                         
Telon generated COBOL program may fail with ABEND U4008. This problem occurs 
only for COBOL 5.1 version.                                                  
                                                                             
SYMPTOMS:                                                                    
ABEND U4008 occurs for COBOL 5.1 Telon program.      

 Starting with COBOL 5.1, and above (including an upgrade to COBOL V6.4), IBM does not share access to the TGT anymore.

Our Telon 31-bit Abnormal Termination programs of;

ADLAATR - CICS
ADMAATR - IMS and BATCH

which are located in PDSQUAL.CAWLSRC, 

have references to the TGT address, which is no longer available, thus causing the U4008 abends. 

 

Additional Information

Looking at the ADMAATR source code, there is one other place where the U4008 ABEND is issued but it is related to the PL/1 language. 

So for COBOL 5.1 (and above versions), Telon was issuing the U4008 ABEND when the TGT table was missing, but PTF RO71383 has fixed that issue for COBOL 5.1 and above.
