Issue/Introduction

How to apply the OPS/MVS 14.0 upgrade with minimal disruption to OPS/MVS systems currently running 13.0 load modules and SSM rules.

Ideally, it will be required to replace the current SSM* rules with 14.0 versions in the same named rule set dataset (i.e. SYS1.OPS.ssss.SSM.RULES) and enable/auto-enable the 14.0 versions

Environment

Release : 14.0

Component : OPS/MVS

Resolution

  •  With the given scenario, there's no need to create a new SYSCHK1 dataset to upgrade to 14.0, the existing SYSCHK1 can be used.
  • To pick up the new AOF rules supplied by Broadcom, a new SSMv3 ruleset with the 14.0 updates can be created  and the OPSAUTO function can be used to set the Autoenable bit for each member.
  • When OPS is shutdown the 14.0 ruleset can be renamed to the old dataset name and when OPS starts the updated rules will be used and the SSM tables will already be in place because the same SYSCHK1 dataset is used.
