To help prevent the SEP Mobile app from being put to sleep by iOS and iPadOS operating systems, Broadcom has introduced the Background App Refresh (BAR) for SEP Mobile.
Enabling this permissions makes proper configuration (i.e the BAR setting for SEP Mobile being enabled) required, otherwise SEP Mobile will report a yellow health alert for the device.
The intent of this article is to provide administrators with information on what end users should expect when this new permission is enabled.
Both Android and iOS now aggressively manage installed apps in an effort to preserve battery life. Apps which do not appear to have user interaction will be marked for sleeping. Since SEP Mobile is intended to run in the background, this makes it a common target on either mobile platform to be marked as an app wasting battery, and then be put on the sleeping apps list.
By requiring that the BAR setting be enabled on iOS, it is possible to prevent the SEP Mobile app from being marked for sleep by the OS.
