DNS Name Resolution when name server is unavailable - Workaround (not feasible long term)

Issue/Introduction

Unable to resolve DNS names when DNS server is unable or not used in deployment

Resolution

SSH/Console into the device and update the hosts file located in /etc/hosts

Commands:

cat /etc/hosts - view contents of file

sudo vi /etc/hosts - open file in vi text editor

vi commands:

i - insert

esc - exit insert mode

:wq - save and quit

:q - quit without saving

 

 

Additional Information

**Note: Any changes to the host file will be reverted back to default on any reflash or upgrade of the EMP operating system.**
