Issue/Introduction

When creating an account template for a custom DYN (JNDI) endpoint, users may encounter a java.lang.String cannot be cast to java.util.Collection error in the Identity Manager logs. This issue typically stems from metadata corruption or configuration inconsistencies within specific connector attributes, often affecting the "email" field

Environment

Identity Manager 14.5

Cause

The error indicates a type-casting mismatch during the account template retrieval process. This often occurs when an attribute in the Connector XPress project (e.g., email address) fails to correctly map the data type, causing the Provisioning Server to receive a String where a Collection is expected.

Resolution

To resolve this mapping error, refresh the attribute configuration in your Connector XPress project:

  1. Open the custom connector project in Connector XPress.
  2. Navigate to Account Attributes and locate the problematic attribute (e.g., email address).
  3. Delete the attribute and re-create it to ensure the underlying schema metadata is properly generated.
  4. Deploy the updated connector project.
  5. Stop the Identity Manager service.
  6. Manually update the connector JAR file in the Identity Manager lib directory with the newly deployed version.
  7. Start the Identity Manager service and verify that the account template can now be created without error.
