Issue/Introduction

We created an SNMPv3 profile and used it to model a device using the Model by IP functionality in Spectrum OneClick.

When the OK button is selected, a popup window appears stating the device is reachable via ICMP but not SNMP.

Environment

Release : Any

Component : Spectrum Discovery

Cause

Running a sniffer trace on the SpectroSERVER system sniffing the ip address of the device being modeled showed the following response from the device:

usmStatsUnknownUserNames OBJECT-TYPE
 SYNTAX Counter32 (0 .. 4294967295)
 ACCESS read-only
 STATUS current

 DESCRIPTION
 "The total number of packets received by the SNMP engine which were dropped because they referenced a user that was not known to the SNMP engine."
  ::= { usmStats 3 }

-- 1.3.6.1.6.3.15.1.1.3

Basically, the device is responding to the SNMPv3 request stating the user in the SNMPv3 profile is not recognized.

Resolution

Verify the user specified in the SNMPv3 profile is correct for the device being modeled.
