Issue/Introduction

This article clarifies the support and licensing policy for Oracle Java (JDK/JRE) versus OpenJDK within the CA Service Management suite, including Service Desk Manager (SDM), Service Catalog (SC), Process Automation (PAM), Asset Portfolio Management (APM), and Embedded Entitlements Manager (EEM).

As Broadcom transitioned common components to OpenJDK 11 and higher starting with release 17.2, customers must understand their licensing obligations. This guidance covers product versions that bundle OpenJDK and addresses the status of third-party Oracle Java licensing for legacy or upgraded environments. Use this information to verify Java compatibility for ITSM components, JasperReports, and Visualizer to ensure compliance with current Broadcom software supportability matrices.

Environment

CA Service Management 17.2 and higher

Process Automation 4.3.x

EEM 12.6.2 and higher

Resolution

Effective with release 17.2 and higher, Service Management components utilize OpenJDK 11 or higher.

  • Service Management (SDM, SC, PAM, APM): OpenJDK 11+ is used for version 17.2 and above.
  • Embedded Entitlements Manager (EEM): OpenJDK is used from version 12.6.2 onward.

Broadcom does not provide or cover licensing for Oracle JDK/JRE. Customers continuing to use Oracle Java are responsible for their own licensing.
