Issue/Introduction

The following error is logged during cube processing:

Unable to start execution of step 1 (reason: Error authenticating proxy <domain\username>, system error: This user isn't allowed to sign in to this computer.).  The step failed.

The service account is an administrator on both the SQL Server (MSSQL) and SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) servers, and the IT Analytics (ITA) credential under which the job runs is configured to use the service account.

Environment

Release : 2.9.1

Component : Default-Sym

Cause

The ITA service account is restricted via Active Directory (AD) from logon to the MSSQL server.

Resolution

To enable the service account to login to the server hosting the MSSQL service and ITAnalytics database, follow this procedure on the AD domain controller:

  1. Open the Microsoft Management Console (mmc.exe)
  2. Under the File menu, select Add/Remove Snap-in
  3. In the Add or Remove Snap-ins window, add the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in and click the OK button
  4. Under Console Root, expand Active Directory Users and Computers
  5. Right-click the domain and select Find
  6. In the Find Users, Contacts, and Groups window, search for the ITA service account
  7. Double-click the account in the search results to open the account's properties window
  8. In the account's Properties window, select the Account tab
  9. Click the Log On To... button
  10. In the Logon Workstations window, ensure the account is configured per either of the following options:
    1. All computers
    2. The server(s) hosting MSSQL, SSAS, and IIS are explicitly listed
  11. Click the OK button to save settings changes and close the Logon Workstations window
  12. Click the OK button to close the account properties window
