Issue/Introduction

We installed the CA EXPERIENCE COLLECTOR and enable the browser agent. We do not see browser agent metrics.

Based on additional testing, we found the following information.

For Application running in apache tomcat, we see that browser agent metrics are being reported for .jsp and .html pages.

For Application running in JBoss 7, we see that browser agent metrics are being reported for .jsp pages, but browser agent metrics are noit being reported for .html pages.

Environment

Release : 10.7.0

Component : APM Agents

Cause

In JBoos Application Server environment, the html pages are not using the standard methods that APM agent instrument for browser agent metrics. Due to this limitation, we see that APM agent is processing html pages and not able to insert browser agent instrumentation. Thus we do not see browser agent metrics for html pages in JBoos Application Server environment.

Resolution

We proposed the following solutions:

1- Insert browser agent snippet into the .html pages that needs monitoring. The browser agent snippet can be inserted manually in each page, or a header (which include browser agent snippet) can be inserted in each page.

2- We have opened an enhancement request with the APM DEV team for the design enhancement to include auto injection functionality with .html pages in JBoos Application Server environment.
