Issue/Introduction

Some of the devices monitored by the vmware probe show in the "Source" column in S_QOS_DATA table an FQDN instead of the hostname.

Is it possible to force the source be always the short name for devices monitored by vmware probe?

Cause

There is a key to determine what will be used as source on vmware probe monitored devices:  use_guest_name_for_source

The values for this key are:

1. When set to 'yes' it will use the vm ip address or guest name.

2. When set to 'no', which is the default, it will use the VM name as displayed in vSphere.

Environment

Release : 20.3

Component : UIM Operator Console - Inventory

vmware probe release: 7.15

Resolution

If it is a requirement that the SOURCE of the VM devices be a short name or hostname, then the recommended is:

1. Make sure the use_guest_name_for_source is set to no

2. Make sure the VM name in Vsphere be a short name instead of a FQDN
