DISK BACKUP AND RESTORE

Issue/Introduction

Sometimes, moving from File DataSet to File DataBase architecture, it can happen that both the Elapsed and CPU Time of the batch IXMAINT executions increase.

What to tune and improve to remove this problem.

Environment

Release :

Component : Disk Backup and Restore

Resolution

It has been verified at customer site that the IXMAINT Elapsed and CPU Time improve a lot doing the following in Sysplex configuration:

- Activate the ECS (Enhanced Catalog Sharing) :  a sharing protocol that stores the information that describe changes to a shared catalog in the Coupling Facility. The I/O required for the VVDS mode protocol is eliminated, resulting in better Sysplex-wide performance.

- Enlarged the VLF memory size for Catalog and add to it all the User Catalogs, that are accessed by IXMAINT for the affected DBIDs elaborations.

Additional Information

From Datacom perspective:

increase the DATAPOOL from "8K,2000,16K,2" to "8K,4000,16K,2"

and implemented a weekly reorg of the DB
