Issue/Introduction

We need to restrict the Max Resources Jobs and Max Resources File Transfer for an agent to zero, but after restarting the agent the values are autocorrecting to unlimited.

How can this be set so a restart does not reset the values to unlimited?

Cause

This setting is handled in UC_HOSTCHAR_DEFAULT in conjunction with UC_EX_HOSTCHAR. By default these values are unlimited, and after a restart, the values will return to unlimited - this is noted in a popup that appears when you save the changes made under Advanced Options for the agent:

Environment

Release : 12.3

Component : Agents

Resolution

The steps for setting Max resources for jobs and file transfers of an agent to remain at the set values after a restart.

This example will use the values of 0 (zero) for an agent named UNIX01.

In client 0 create a duplicate of UC_HOSTCHAR_DEFAULT and rename it to UC_HOSTCHAR_UNIX01.

Change WORKLOAD_MAX_FT from the default value of unlimited to the value 0

Change WORKLOAD_MAX_JOB from the default value of -1 to the value 0

Open UC_EX_HOSTCHAR and for your UNIX01 agent change the value 1 for this agent to UNIX01 (this is the name you gave to the duplicate of UC_HOSTCHAR file - UC_HOSTCHAR_UNIX01).

In the advanced options of the agent set the workload balancing values to 0 and save.

Stop the agent.
Start the agent.
View the advanced options/workload balancing settings for this agent and you will see that these remain as 0. You can even restart AE and these values will remain at 0.

To restore the values to the default, open UC_EX_HOSTCHAR and for your UNIX01 agent change the value 1 for this agent to DEFAULT.
Stop the agent.
Start the agent.
View the advanced options/workload balancing settings for this agent and you will see that these values have returned to unlimited.
