Issue/Introduction

We have some project tasks that are 100% Complete and their status is set to Completed. However, there are some other tasks where even if the % Complete is set to 100, the task status is set to Started.
What is the logic behind?

Cause

ETC was added at the assignment level after the task had been set to Completed

Resolution

Let's take a task with an assignment that does not have actuals nor ETC
To start with the % Complete is 0 and the Status is Not Started
If the Status is set to Started, the % Complete will be automatically set to 1%
If the Status is set to Completed, the % Complete will be automatically set to 100%
If the % Complete is set to 0%, the task Status will be automatically set as Not Started
If the % Complete is set to a non 0% or 100% value, the task Status will be automatically set as Started
If the % Complete is set to 100%, the task Status will be automatically set as Completed

Let's take a task with an assignment that does not have actuals nor ETC and add some ETC to it
The Task Status and % Complete fields are editable
To start with the % Complete is 0 and the Status is Not Started
Add some ETC to the assignment
The % Complete is 0 and the Status is Not Started
Modify the ETC of the assignment
The % Complete is 0 and the Status is Not Started
Set the % Complete to 100%, the task Status will be automatically set as Started
This is because a task Status can not be set to Completed if assignment ETC exists

  - Note that if using Phoenix Theme in Classic and you are editing on the task itself as a pop-up, the status may not update at all.  You will then need to do it from the task list page or the gantt.
If you manually try to change the Status to Completed, Clarity will complain because there is ETC present at the assignment level and no task can be set to completed if ETC exists.
If you change the assignment ETC to 0, you will then need to manually change the Status to Completed
Now the % Complete is set to 100% and the task Status is set as Completed
Add some ETC value to the assignment
The % Complete will remain at 100% and the Status has changed to Started.
Same rule applies, as there is ETC present, the Status can not be completed, but the % Complete remains at its previous value 100%

Adding ETC to the assignment of a completed task sets its status to Started but leaves the % complete to its previous 100% value
Zeroing the ETC value afterward does not change the task Status to Completed either.
As % Calculation method is manual, the task status will need to be manually edited
