Issue/Introduction

If we specify a Japanese attribute name or specify a label for Japanese in a portlet by using 'Translate' icon and create a package file by Content Package, a generated XML file does not have the Japanese attribute name and label.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

[Test 1]

  1. Created a new portlet by specifying the Project as Object.
  2. Added "Type" to a selected column in Layout section.
  3. Changed the label for Japanese to "表示" in the Field setting.
  4. Saved and published the portlet.
  5. Added the created portlet to the Content Package and created the package.
  6. Unzipped the generated jar file and open (portlet name).xml file stored under ..\xog\portlets folder.
    --->
    The displayed label is not "表示" but "タイプ" to languageCode="ja" located under code="inv_type_caption". It was automatically changed another Japanese name.

[Test 2]

  1. Created a new attribute to the Project Object and specified Japanese Name as an attribute name.
  2. Created a new portlet by specifying the Project as Object.
  3. Added the new attribute created on the step 1 to a selected column in Layout section.
  4. Saved and published the portlet.
  5. Added the created portlet to the Content Package and created the package.
  6. Unzipped the generated jar file and open (portlet name).xml file stored under ..\xog\portlets folder.
    --->
    Only English Name is displayed for languageCode="ja".

Expected Results:
Japanese attribute name and label specified by Translate icon are displayed in the xml file.

Actual Results:
The specified Japanese name is disappeared.

Resolution

This is not a defect but works by design.

The reason that we see the behavior is because the XOG output of the portlet in a Content Package contains the string "Type" in 2 places. The first one is under the portlets->gridPortlet-> column tag. Another is located under the portlets->gridPortlet->filter->defaultDisplay->viewFieldDescriptor. Since the second translation in the viewFieldDescriptor still contains the original Japanese String, this is being picked up during the NLS processing in the content package extractor.

If you need to change the column label of the portlet, please update the label of the filter as well, and then create a Content Package.
