Issue/Introduction

Two different alarms are being generated by the data_engine probe:

1. data_engine:Failed to insert QoS data into the database, check that the database is running.
2. data_engine:[Microsoft SQL Server Native Client 11.0] TCP Provider: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

Environment

Release : 20.3

Component : UIM - DATA_ENGINE

Cause

Data_engine probes were active simultaneously on two different hubs.  This is not a supported configuration.

Resolution

Disabling the HA hub data_engine probe resolved the issue.

If a failover solution is required, the following situations are supported:

  • Failover is handled by the cluster when DX UIM is installed on an Active/Passive Microsoft Cluster.
  • Failover is handled by the HA probe when DX UIM is installed on the primary and secondary hubs with the HA probe.  The HA probe handles activation/deactivation of probes as needed to ensure that only one hub is active at a time.
