DX UIM 20.3 or 20.4 - Oracle 19c upgrade question

Issue/Introduction

• We are planning to upgrade our UIM backend Production database from Oracle Database version 12c to Oracle Database 19c.
• Do we need to consider anything as part of the upgrade?
• Can we do the upgrade in-place on the DB server or do we need to create a new DB server and migrate the database?

Environment

• Release: UIM 20.3, 20.4
• Component: UIM - INSTALL
• data_engine version: 20.3x, 20.4x

Cause

• Oracle upgrade guidance/question

Resolution

As of UIM v20.3.3, and 20.4 as well, UIM supports both Oracle 12 and Oracle 19.

Check your overall environment against the matrix below first before proceeding. Please refer to the following techdoc page:

Take a backup/snapshot of your existing Oracle database.

Steps:

1. Stop the Nimsoft Robot Watcher Service on the following servers:

       - Primary Hub
       - Operator Console node(s)
       - CABI robot

2. Upgrade the DX UIM Oracle database from 12 to 19 following the official guidance from Oracle.

3. Once the upgrade is complete, you can start the Robot on the above servers and validate.
