Issue/Introduction

We tried to configure the nic_monitor probe using the mcs 'Network Interface Monitor (Enhanced)' profile from OC, but doesn't shows information.

This profile was used in other servers without problem, but with this group (Red Hat) isn't working.

The nic_monitor log shows it is processing metrics:

Mar 09 12:44:47:945 [pool-1-thread-1, nic_monitor] UnixNicStatCollector.readString:121: Read metric from: /sys/class/net/bond0/statistics/rx_bytes
Mar 09 12:44:47:945 [pool-1-thread-1, nic_monitor] UnixNicStatCollector.readString:133: Metric value: 46365088131597
Mar 09 12:44:47:945 [pool-1-thread-1, nic_monitor] UnixNicStatCollector.readString:121: Read metric from: /sys/class/net/bond0/statistics/rx_packets
Mar 09 12:44:47:945 [pool-1-thread-1, nic_monitor] UnixNicStatCollector.readString:133: Metric value: 47824699303
Mar 09 12:44:47:945 [pool-1-thread-1, nic_monitor] UnixNicStatCollector.readString:121: Read metric from: /sys/class/net/bond0/statistics/rx_errors
Mar 09 12:44:47:946 [pool-1-thread-1, nic_monitor] UnixNicStatCollector.readString:133: Metric value: 0

DrNimBus shows no messages coming in.

$\Nimsoft\plugins\plugin_metric\plugin_metric.cfg is correct.

spooler.log shows no errors or any indication messages for nic_monitor are being processed.

Environment

  • Release: 20.4
  • Component: UNIFIED INFRASTRUCTURE MGMT
  • nic_monitor

Resolution

  • On the target Linux system you MUST disable network bonding for nic_monitor to work and collect metrics.
    • Network bonding refers to the combination of network interfaces on one host for redundancy and/or increased throughput.
