GEN Encyclopedia Clients Error CSEXI0259E

Issue/Introduction

After installing Gen 8.6 on Windows Server 2019 Standard, the Encyclopedia Client receives the following error:

CSEXI0259E The license checking subsystem is at an unsupported version level

Environment

Release: 8.6

Component: Gen Client Server Encyclopedia 

Cause

1. The License Software at the following location does not exist or is empty.  C:\Program Files (x86)\CA\SharedComponents\CA_LIC, and it contains around 46 files.

2. The registry location "Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LogWatch" should exist.  The 'Event Log Watch' service is the License Software main service, so without this software the above error will occur.

 

Resolution

Uninstall Gen, then reinstall Gen making sure that the setup.exe is running with Administrator authority. 

Note:  The Gen installation will modify the Windows Registry so Admin authority is required.  Make sure the 'LogWatch' registry keys exist after the installation.
